Tuesday 13th May – Windsurf *** The Manor at Felixstowe – Sunny and warm.

Foil – 18.23 knot max, 16.62 knot ave., 11.04 knot hour, 16.17 knot mile, 41.85 km., 11.03 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Stom 6.5.

I was keen to get out as have missed a few breeze afternoons of late, the ene seemed to be increasing and with high wate at Felixstowe at one I decided to have a quick breakfast I dove down to Squiz Lane at The Mano to check the conditions with HHA now showing aound 14 knots. Paking easily it looked ideal, not a cloud in the sky and enough beeze for my 6.5 so I quickly set up and was ready fo the off at ten with the sea looking smooth but with a few waves rolling up the beach, nothing to worry about. Sadly something went wrong and somehow I managed to beak the top half of my mast in two places and snap a batten:( I was lucky I had an old 4.30 mast in my trailer so was able to ig again but with a missing battern which did not seem to effect the sail too much! I got away from the beach OK at the second attempt and was soon up and flying sailing out to the shipping channel befoe the wind eased back for half an hour, so I slowly back and forth hoping it would return, it was not helped by the fact I had wind with tide! Then luckily the breeze filled in a little and I could get up flying by running down a wave and pump a little and I had a good spell doing long runs in the sunshine, ending up doing 26 miles in the end. With the tide approaching high and getting knackered I decided to call it a day as it was getting inceasingly lumpy, I had been joined by a fin sailo out on big kit but he called it a day too! Landing with no problem I packed up and headed fo home to send a few pics to the TV weathe, fo the second day unning the lovely Chris Page used one on ITV’s About Anglia, no luck on the BBC my face dosent fit thee, that’s for sure! We then had a nice afternoon aound an old fiend Mary’s
So will be looking fo a replacement Tushingham Freeide 75 4.30 mast, and a Tushingham Storm/Bold or Thunderbird 6.5 if anyone can help please email – squirrell@talktalk.net
